The TLC is very capable off road machine; it is not only for show off

It is more fun with four wheels.

May 20, 2017

All the while I thought that the TLC series 200 is all for a show and to be used only in estates and in parties to show to rich friends and high society.  I did not know that it has several unique features for off road:   hill descent, crawl, rock crawling and many more.   I would not be able to do many of the death defying moves of the TLC.  What a waste if the TLC got a dent.  But I could see that it still mortal and unresponsive in deep much or even muddy river crossing.

Great interior, collision avoidance, side front back and side cameras for tight situation (off roading) 8 airbags

The MaxTrax Australian invented vehicle extraction and recovery system

It is more fun with four wheels.

MaxTrax

I again found in the 2009 Australian 4x4 magazine the MaxTrax.  What is MaxTrax?

It is an innovative extraction and recovery device invented by Australian 4WD enthusiasts.  It is a reliable simple but rugged system that you simply insert underneath your vehicle tires, you let your vehicle tires roll over maxtrax, and once you gain traction, you have recovered.  You may not need winching or towing.  Ingenious yeah, Mate?

No need for jacks? or shovels, and you can recover alone using your own vehicles power. It works well in sand, mud and snow too.

The D max comes with the latest goodies in engine tech

It is more fun with four wheels.vtg_diagram_closed.jpg

From max run - Dmax engine tech

The following high engine tech comes with the Isuzu Dmax:

1.  Variable Geometry Turbo no more turbo lag.  Paul Tan - How VGT works?  or variable nozzle turbines.

2.  Flat torque curve  -  torque is maintained level from 1,400 to 2,800 assuring constant power

3.  For AT, grade logic sequential transmission, assures the vehicle to be in the right gear all the time, assuring maximum fuel efficiency;

Fuel efficiency is at 8.1 liter/100 km

How does a  Variable Geometry  work?

It is used extensively for diesel engines.  There are variable vanes that are controlled that direct the exhaust gases that turn the turbo blades.  At rest, the vanes are narrow and almost closed causing high pressure exhaust gases to flow to the vane (pre boost)

As the engine warms up and speeds up faster, the vanes are opened up causing less pressure for gases to go to turbine blades.  Thus the speed of gas to the turbine varies as the engine speed varies, giving instant response to turbo.  Big turbos are notorious for turning slower, thus you need twin turbos.  But with VGT you need only one turbo:  more efficient and more responsive.  There is practically no turbo lag.

Comparative analysis: Land Rover vs other 4x4

These are comparative analysis of Land Rover 4x4 vehicles vs other makes.  Judge for yourself which is better.  Is it the vehicle?  The driver or the technique. The driver may be cautious?  Did he lack momentum, or was he spinning his wheel too much?

We said because we have observed that old 4x4 models worked better than new ones.  Try to make your own judgement:

How does the Land Rover Disco fare vs the 3.2 L Ranger Wildtrax?

The one really cool thing about the Ford Ranger Wildtrak

The Ranger Wildrax has 3.2 liter engine which packs 200 HP.   A Wild Trax would cost about P1.6 million and Disco about 2x that amount. We do not know much about the Disco but I guess it is very very expensive and packs plenty of latest engine electronix:  traction control ABS.

The Wildtrax struggle on the off road obstacle.  The Disco does not.  So what is the verdict?  Land Rove is still the best?

But that is comparing apples and oranges.  The price of a Disco is 4x than that of a Ranger.  Here is the Rader Comparison
