I used to an officer (Trustee and Secretary) of the Land Rover Club of the Philippines. This site recalls and relives the past 4x4 offroading experiences. About my experience with Range Rover, Defender and the classic. Land Cruisers - series 40 and series 80. Renegade with SD 33 Nissan engine - the best. We now use for daily use a Subaru Forester. | Land Rover | Range Rover | Renegade | 4x4 | Defender 110 | Jeep | CJ2 | CJ3 | CJ8

Dale A really made us some crazy death defying activities
As I watched a 4x4 adventure Car Vs. Wild in Discovery channel, I came across a portion where the Wrangler was to descend into a deep gorge and they had this winch assisted and moving backward. They did all types of rope relay, and even belay to arrest the fall just in case. There was no mention of the grade. But Dale asked us to descend a slope in Mt Maarat, a portion of now Timberland in San Mateo, Rizal of what could have been 40 degrees+ slope. They were using this for the motocross jumps.
We descended forward, without winch, and he advised us not to brake but to feather the throttle. It is was scary. If you panic and you brake, you somersault. I did not do it; an office mate did for our vehicle.
