There was this story about a man who rode to the highest place in the world, about 5,000 meters above sea level and he used a Defender 110. That is 1/2 Mt Everest. It is somewhere in India border? It is so high that he must acclimatize himself, or even have oxygen therapy to cure him of high altitude sickness.
The roads were narrow and wrecks reminded him to be careful.
He broke a half shaft at the rear, and he had to be rescued. The mechanic removed the drive to the rear and he proceeded only with the front wheel drive running. But that presented a problem when negotiating steep hills/climbs. His solution: drive in reverse. The heavier engine at the back while doing the reverse gave him better traction. Reverse too has higher gear ratio, and hence greater climbing power. Ingenious, eh
