What would be comparable now head to head?

The engine technology has dramatically improved.  I learned that for instance, X trail 2.5 liter delivers 180 hp.  Ten years ago, that was the output of 4.6 liter HSE.  The classic Range Rover only delivers (a V8 at that) only 150 hp.  Value for money, X trail would be good HP per cc buy.  But does that compare to off road capability.  To whom can we compare X trail.  Well in terms of price and what can be compared, Defender 110 and X trail can be compared:
