Joining Dale in his 4x4 offroading escapades made you test your courage. He really made us do things we had not experienced before. One mistake and you could wreck your vehicle. In one case, his Suzuki fell of a cliff and the banana plants prevented the vehicle from being totalled.
Such was the difficulty of the routes that we take, that one brand new 4x4 pick up had to be claimed for total loss for the insurance. Some not so good 4x4 would break their drive shafts even while river crossing flat
He made us pass through pathways and trees where the clearance on both sides were probably mm only. That was where the pick up had difficulty. It lodged between the two big rocks and both sides of the pick up were scraped. If you do not know how to retake a failed hill climb, you will probably bang up the back of your vehicle.
At one point, when we were climbing Mt. Sto Tomas, I forgot to lock my diff, and nearly fell of a steep wooden bridge, the last barrier going up to the antenna tower. The RR would have fallen (with me of course) hundreds of meters to the bottom of the cliff. Whew. That was close
