It is more fun with four wheels.
From max run - Dmax engine tech
The following high engine tech comes with the Isuzu Dmax:
1. Variable Geometry Turbo no more turbo lag. Paul Tan - How VGT works? or variable nozzle turbines.
2. Flat torque curve - torque is maintained level from 1,400 to 2,800 assuring constant power
3. For AT, grade logic sequential transmission, assures the vehicle to be in the right gear all the time, assuring maximum fuel efficiency;
Fuel efficiency is at 8.1 liter/100 km
How does a Variable Geometry work?
It is used extensively for diesel engines. There are variable vanes that are controlled that direct the exhaust gases that turn the turbo blades. At rest, the vanes are narrow and almost closed causing high pressure exhaust gases to flow to the vane (pre boost)
As the engine warms up and speeds up faster, the vanes are opened up causing less pressure for gases to go to turbine blades. Thus the speed of gas to the turbine varies as the engine speed varies, giving instant response to turbo. Big turbos are notorious for turning slower, thus you need twin turbos. But with VGT you need only one turbo: more efficient and more responsive. There is practically no turbo lag.
